چکیده
OBJECTIVES The purpose of this study holds, for the first time, an evaluation of the intraperitoneal curcumin lavage on the development of post-operative intra-abdominal adhesions. MATERIALS AND METHODS Thirty male Wistar rats were randomized into five groups. The rats were administered anesthesia and underwent surgery in order to create intra-abdominal adhesions. Before the abdomen was closed, five lavage solutions of normal saline (control group), curcumin 1, 3, and 5% and hydrocortisone 1% were used for 1 min. After five days, the rats underwent laparatomy. Based on a histopathology evaluation and serum levels of hs-CRP, TNFα and Isoprostane, peritoneal adhesion severity were compared in different groups. RESULTS The groups that received curcumin 3% and 5% showed a significant decrease in TNFα, hs-CRP and Isoprostane serum concentrations compared to the normal saline group, however, these differences were not significant, between the other groups. The intensity of adhesions in the different groups of curcumin 1, 3 and 5% concentrations and hydrocortisone 1% were compared to the normal saline control group and no significant statistical difference was recorded. CONCLUSION Curcumin was not effective in post-operative peritoneal adhesion; however, further studies on curcumin lavage in higher concentrations are recommended.

متن کاملEvaluation of Silymarin effects on post-operative peritoneal adhesion in Rats
Background & aims: Adhesion and fibrotic bands formation is one of the most important post-surgical complication in pelvic and abdominal surgeries. Major studies in prevention of adhesion formation have based on antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agents. Silymarin, Silybum marianum extract contains compounds with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and fibrinolytic activities thus could reduce adhesi...

The objective of this study was to determine the effectiveness of topical administration of honey in prevention of or reduction in post-surgical peritoneal adhesions in dog. The study was conducted on 18 adultfemale mixed-breed dogs with a mean ± SD weight of 20 ± 4.25 kg. A standardized surgical trauma (serosaltrauma model) was made in the dogs’ descending colon to induce adhesion formation. T...

Introduction: Opium addiction can change immune response to Types of stress such as injury or trauma due to alterations in the in secretion status of cytokines in the body. In this study, effects of opium addiction on wound healing and post-operative adhesion bands were assessed after laparotomy. Materials and Methods: Male rats (n=20) were randomly divided into opium addicted (documented with ...
متن کاملEffects of N-acetyl-L-cysteine on Postoperative Intrabdominal Adhesion in a Large Animal Model
Objective- Mechanisms that decrease oxidative stress and enhance peritoneal fibrinolysis reduce adhesions. N-acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC) is an antioxidant whose effect on peritoneal fibrinolysis in large animal model has not been established. The aims of this study were to investigate the ability of NAC to decreased adhesion in stablished model of serosal trauma in sheep. Design- Expe...
